Dieses
Rennen fand im Rahmen der Tourist Trophy Formel 2 Weltmeisterschaft
statt.
The race:
In 1983 the opening race of the day was the TT F2 race and the race took
place in ideal conditions, except for the last lap where the rain began
to fall and the visibility dropped. A battle for first place took place
right from the start between Phil Mellor (350 Yamaha), Tony Rutter (600
Ducati),
Graeme McGregor (600 Ducati), Des Barry and Bob Smith (600 Ducati). Barry had to
retire on the 3rd lap but he along with the others named above broke the
lap record repeatedly. Mellor, Rutter and McGregor continued to battle,
with Smith falling back, and the lead changed constantly. Then 3 laps
from the end, McGregor thought he had a puncture at the Hairpin and
slowed off. Mellor and Rutter then played it out until half way through
the last lap when Mellor took the lead after taking advantage of the now
wet roads. At the finish line Mellor was 4 seconds ahead of Rutter and
McGregor, in 3rd, was a further half minute back.
